"My work started in textiles and shifted towards architecture, graduating with a Master of Architecture. For me, weaving and architecture are interlinked. In my work, they are an evolution of one another. Through my weaving, I’ve been able to explore ideas around architecture and in my architecture work, the methodical process of weaving has influenced restraint in my architecture work. Weaving can be preplanned, similar to architecture, you have to map out your concept with a draft and plan the details of the final artwork.
Weaving, similar to architecture, is a cultural practice and a physical craft. It embeds stories into physical form. Most often my influences come from architecture and place. Through weaving, I typically find inspiration from regional influences. Whether they are contemporary artists or architecture I am responding to, historical symbols, cultural references or local materiality—all aspects related to place influence my work in various ways."
