Tess Stieben suffered injuries resulting from a whiplash incident in June 2017, causing brain trauma and severe pain. About a year later, she was given a spinning wheel. Tess learned to spin wool and began pulling yarn through hoops, which became Healing Mandalas. By weaving these mandalas, her cognitive facility returned. In April 2019 she spent time learning from Pirkko Karvonen, who taught her Raanu, a Finnish weaving style. This was instrumental in Tess becoming a weaver. Tess mostly weaves on an 8-shaft table loom to create one-of-a-kind weavings using patterns that she designs. Despite having (EDS), a condition where joints easily dislocate, Tess perseveres through the weaving process. Knowing that weaving creates strong brain connections, she does what it takes to create usable items for others to enjoy.
