Tyler Sambo is a craftsman residing and making in Edmonton. His work focuses on creating attractive yet functional pieces intended for many years of loving household use.

Tyler's designs focus on symmetry and bringing a contemporary flair to otherwise utilitarian objects. His work seeks to walk the line between form and function, creating pieces that would be at home in both a dining room or a gallery. His inspirations include traditional woodworking techniques, midcentury furniture and architecture, and other craft disciplines.

Responsible materials usage is a major tenet of Tyler's woodworking practice. Through a varied work history including stints in manufacturing, small appliance repair, public works and the service industry, Tyler has developed a very personal awareness of the vast quantities and varieties of waste produced by North American consumption. This perspective is incorporated into his work by using reclaimed materials, designing around cracks, nail holes, weather damage and more to create pieces that will live on beyond their materials original utility.

Tyler's body of work has included furniture, jewelry, musical instruments and kitchen implements. His current practice is a mix of small-batch production and one-off custom pieces, using local, exotic and reclaimed materials.

"I am a designer at heart, I have often found myself frustrated by spaces and objects that do not appropriately balance form and function. Useful things needn't only be useful, and beautiful things can be more than just for looking. Woodworking felt like a very natural way to express this."
