Exploring themes of extravagance, magic, feminism, religion, and playful social critique in my work, I found inspiration in literary and historical symbols and stories. I strive to connect the past with the modern.
While selecting pieces from the Bling Bucket, I was captivated by a pale jade necklace. I felt drawn to explore the intricately carved beads and pendant and was particularly intrigued by the chain and floral elements. I also picked out a necklace adorned with brown seed beads that matched the brown stripe on the jade flower. The oval frame, which I dyed, came from a repurposed pair of bone earrings. I aimed to echo the shapes of these adopted elements in the copper sections I crafted to unify my design.
Overall, my goal was to honour the beautifully carved shapes made by the artisans of the original pieces.
Stone (assumed to be jade), glass beads, copper.

Copper will colour the skin green if worn for long periods of time, and may cause irritation to some people. Copper will tarnish with time, but can be polished with a jewelry cloth.
