Erica got her start in clay after taking a class at the North Mount Pleasant Art Center eight years ago. She was hooked. Before finishing the course, she had already bought a wheel and was finding space a basement closet to get deeper in the mud. Working with clay feet like alchemy; making something that was functional, durable and aesthetically pleasing from a ball of clay has magic.

She loves the vast opportunities that clay offers. Erica has taken a deeper dive with creating simple forms, but adding texture and visual interest with carving. She finds inspiration from nature, patterns and a midcentury modern aesthetic. Clay offers many opportunities to teach hard lessons, but also, offers chances to be extremely curious and ask "Oh- I wonder..." It is through this medium, that Erica has learnt to slow down, ground herself and be patient and humble through trial and error. When Erica is not making pots, you can find her with her family (often the driver for her kids activities), she will be found mountain biking or at the gym.
