I was inspired by cycles—how we take something that was once loved and used but is no longer wanted or needed, and we give it new life. Thinking about the life cycle of a butterfly, for example, when it cocoons itself and emerges transformed, or how flowers grow through their seasonal cycles, beginning as small seeds underground, reaching for light, and then blossoming.

Repurposing these items and transforming them into something new to be cherished once again is deeply rooted in my heritage. It’s about taking something that might be deemed “garbage” and revitalizing it into something beautiful. For instance, while some may see a porcupine struck on the side of the road, others might see an opportunity to give this little creature a new life by repurposing its quills, hair, claws, and teeth, allowing its body to return to the earth and start another cycle of life.

The deconstructed stone necklace inspired the design on the butterfly, while the hoops in the flower earrings were made by stacking multiple hoops.
